Meeting of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held

On November 16, 2022, the meeting of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held. The issue of the violation of the law that took place on the channel "Space TV", as well as 2 applications received by the Council for obtaining licenses of platform broadcaster not-performing satellite transmission.

Firstly, the fact of broadcasting of information promoting violence and cruelty during program "Gəl danış" of "Space TV" channel, which had been aired from 12.00 to 14.45, on November 14, 2022 was discussed. This broadcasting led to the violation of Article 14.1.5 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media" (information published in the media shall not promote violence and cruelty).

Guided by Articles 41.1.1 and 41.5 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media", the Council took a decision to suspend the broadcasting of programs of "Space TV" channel on November 17, 2022 for 3 hours.

Then, the applications submitted to the Council by "Baku TV" LLC and "Beat Media" LLC for obtaining a license of platform broadcaster not-performing satellite transmission were considered. The lawyers of the Council provided the Council Members with information on the list and content of the submitted documents and noted that the documents have been compiled in accordance with the relevant requirements.

After extensive discussions, the Council Members, for the first time after the entry into force of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media" took decision to issue licenses of platform broadcaster not-performing satellite transmission, which is a new type of audiovisual media activity, to "Baku TV" LLC (name of the television channel-editorial office: "Baku TV") and "Beat Media" LLC (name of the television channel- editorial office: "Beat TV").
