A meeting was held at the Audiovisual Council with representatives of nationwide terrestrial television channels financed by the state budget

On May 20, 2025 a meeting was held at the Audiovisual Council with representatives of nationwide terrestrial television channels financed from the state budget and having the status of public broadcaster.

The meeting discussed amendments to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", which entered into force on April 11, 2025 and the issue of the use of sign language in information programs based on these amendments.

Representatives of channels were provided with detailed information on the requirements of the newly added Article 12-1 of the Law "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities". There was an exchange of views on the stages of ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Law. Broadcasters reported intensive work being carried out in this direction and that in the near future information programs broadcast on television channels during “prime time” would be accompanied by sign language interpretation.

At the end of the discussions, it was agreed to maintain ongoing communications regarding the work being carried out, as well as to address existing challenges in this sphere through mutual cooperation.
