Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan

An awareness-raising meeting was held with representatives of audiovisual media entities and advertising agencies on the newly adopted Competition Code

 

On April 9, 2024 at the joint organization of the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an awareness-raising meeting was held on the newly adopted Competition Code with representatives of audiovisual media entities and companies providing advertising services in audiovisual media.

The Deputy Head of the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Consumer Market Control Jafar Babayev, who opened the event with an opening speech, spoke about the importance and necessity of adopting the Competition Code, which will enter into force on July 1 of this year, and also informed participants about the areas covered by the Code, as well as about the holding of such educational meetings in order to clarify the legislation for business entities operating in various fields, before its entry into force.

The Head of the Office of the Audiovisual Council, Fazil Novruzov, in turn, spoke about the existing close cooperation between the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Consumer Market Control and the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, informed about joint monitoring carried out by the two bodies to ensure compliance by audiovisual media entities with the requirements of advertising and competition legislation, as well as on the positive results achieved, and noted the importance of jointly organized awareness-raising seminars.

Then representatives of the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Consumer Market Control presented an extensive presentation on the Competition Code, the purpose of its adoption, the new concepts contained in the Code, the advantages that the Code provides for the implementation of the activities of business entities in accordance with international standards, and the importance of compliance with competition and advertising laws by persons operating in all spheres, including audiovisual media, and on the protection by the Code of their interests in this direction as well. The presentation also introduced the innovations contained in the Code and reflected the positive impact they will have on economic activity in all areas.
