Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The Report of the Government of Azerbaijan on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was presented in Geneva on March 12-13

 

The delegation consisting of officials from a number of state bodies participated in the 30th Session of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities held in Geneva. The delegation, headed by Anar Karimov, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population was also attended by Fazil Novruzov, the Head of the Office of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the session Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Karimov delivered Periodic Report of the Government of Azerbaijan on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Then the questions asked by the members of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities were answered.

Fazil Novruzov, the Head of the Office of the Audiovisual Council, answering questions regarding the coverage of issues related to persons with disabilities in the audiovisual media, noted the innovations in this field that have taken place in the television broadcasting of Azerbaijan in recent years, and pointed that some news programs on two nationwide television channels are presented with sign language interpretation, as well as the main news spots of many television channels are accompanied by a running subtitles. It has been highlighted that in the past year TV channels have broadcast over 100 stories, reports or programs addressing the issues faced by persons with disabilities. Additionally, some channels have consistently aired programs dedicated to this topic.
