A warning has been issued to "Muz TV Azerbaijan" - the platform broadcaster performing satellite broadcasting.

On June 30, 2022 a meeting of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held on the fact of violation of the law during broadcasting. At the meeting the fact of violation of the requirement of Article 14.1.4 (propaganda of racial, religious, ethnic, gender and other discrimination) of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media" during the broadcasting of the "MTV Magazine" show on television channel "MTV" on June 25, 2022 from 12:00 to 13:00 were discussed.            

So, during the mentioned show (at 12.44) the following statements were made by the guest: "You destroyed the family. Look, he is a man. He will marry again. What will you, poor woman do? Look, you will stay with the child in the corner of the house… you will marry again… if you can get married. Who will marry you with the child? Will you stay alone at home? 99% of divorced people (it means women) are not happy about that. Why? They stay alone. They stay without family. Without a person, who financially supports. They can’t marry with a child. Neither mistress nor maid..."

The fact that broadcaster allows to make such statements on the air casts a shadow on activities carried out in the field of gender equality and human rights protection in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Making a woman the only victim of divorce and family breakdown, creating a "pathetic" image of a woman is considered as propaganda of gender discrimination, which leads to a violation of the relevant requirement of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media".

After the discussions, the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan decided to issue a warning to "Muz TV Azerbaijan" - the platform broadcaster performing satellite broadcasting that if such a situation recurs, serious administrative sanctions will be applied.
