On May 20-21, 2021, the 53rd meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) was held in video meeting format. Representatives of the National Television and Radio Council also took part in the meeting.
On May 20, 2021, during the plenary session entitled "What's New in the Life of EPRA?" the 3-year workplan of the organization was presented and approved by the EPRA members. The Updates of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the OSCE Office on Freedom of the Media and the European Audiovisual Observatory were shared, the report of the EPRA Secretariat for 2020 and the action plan for 2021 were adopted.
During the meeting, the proposed amendments to the EPRA Statutes were widely discussed and adopted as a result of a vote among the EPRA members. Then a new Executive board has been elected. Ľuboš Kukliš, a Chief Executive at the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission of Slovakia has been unanimously elected as Chairperson of the EPRA Executive Board for a 2-year term. Together with Ľuboš, EPRA members also unanimously elected four Vice-Chairpersons.
On May 21, 2021, within the framework of the meeting, a thematic session "Living with hate speech: from apprehending to combatting" was held. During the session, the latest innovations in the fight against hate speech in a number of countries, legal problems arising in this area, examples of the process of using the method of joint regulation by regulatory authorities in this area with other public organizations, video sharing platforms and media structures were presented.
On May 21, 2021, 2nd Meeting of EPRA’s Media and Information Literacy (EMIL) Taskforce was held in video meeting format. NTRC is also a member of EMIL. The meeting focused on issues related to hate speech and the positive aspects of media literacy in this area.
