The Audiovisual Council held meetings with the heads of multiplex and platform operators

On 20-22 September 2023, the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan held meetings with the heads of multiplex and platform operators.

The main topic of the meetings was the activity of websites with domain addresses in foreign countries, which provides services of retransmission of foreign television channels without appropriate registration and obtaining a license, in violation of the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and creates serious obstacles to the work of operators operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of a license, and undermines healthy competition in this area. Concern was expressed about the sharp increase in these cases in recent years and the importance of taking necessary steps to prevent such illegal entrepreneurial activity was emphasized. It was considered necessary for the Audiovisual Council, other relevant government authorities and the operators jointly to combat such type of piracy.

At the meeting, detailed information was given on the procedures for renewal of licenses, issuance of licenses to new operators, submission of necessary information by operators to the Council, following the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media". Participants were provided with data on existing shortcomings in the activities of a number of operators and discussed issues of interest to operators.

It is planned to hold such meetings and mutual contacts on a regular basis in order to properly organize the activities of operators in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and to establish prompt and effective communication between the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is the regulatory body and operators.
