The Statement of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the pressure on the employees of the "AZTV" channel performing professional duties in France, and considers this fact as a threat to freedom of speech and the media.

As it’s known, on June 28, 2023 while preparing a reportage in France, the correspondent and cameraman of "Azerbaijan Television and Radio Programs" CJSC were attacked, lightly injured, their cameras were taken away and they were intimidated.. The Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is the regulatory body in the field of audiovisual media, calls on the relevant French authorities, as well as international media and journalists' rights organizations to give a legal assessment of the incident, and demands that local law enforcement agencies take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such events in the future.
