A roundtable was organized by the Council with the staff of regional TV channels operating in the northern region
On May 12, 2023 a roundtable was held in the administrative building of "ARB Shimal" television channel located in Khachmaz city on such topics as "Combating the dissemination of false and misleading information in audiovisual media" and "The role of audiovisual media in combating human trafficking".
The roundtable, organized by the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was attended by program directors and newsroom staff of "ARB Shimal", "ARB Gunesh", "Qafqaz TV" regional television channels.
In his opening speech, Assistant to the Chairman of the Council Hashim Alimammadzade, emphasized the importance of educational work on these topics and the role of television channels in this direction.
Speaking on "The role of audiovisual media in combating human trafficking", representative of the Council Aykhan Sadigly drew attention to the need to strengthen propaganda and literacy work in the combating human trafficking, and for this purpose to creation and demonstration various social videos, short films and programs. He also informed about the circumstances under which the dissemination of information and disclosure of the source of information are not allowed.
Then the roundtable continued its work with the topic "Combating the dissemination of false and misleading information – "fake news" in audiovisual media". Aykhan Sadigly said that combating the dissemination of false and misleading information should be a priority for of audiovisual media. Talking about the important role of media literacy in this area, he added that a lack of media literacy reduces the ability to choose the truth amidst an abundance of information. While media literacy is important for all age categories, it is especially important to educate minors, adolescents, and young people.
Then the representative of the Council Kamran Aliyev informed the participants about the amendments made to the Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Administrative Offenses" in connection with the violation of the law "On Media" and possible sanctions.
Representatives of regional television channels addressed questions to the representatives of the Council related to the creation of programs on these topics, coverage of sensitive topics, as well as features of children's programs. Then they were provided with explanations.
Further, representatives of the Council also answered questions regarding the organization of special educational programs on these topics, broadcasting of social videos and submission of reports on these broadcasts to the Council.
