The national satellite operator
The national satellite operator is a state-owned body that technically carries out the satellite transmission and retransmission of audiovisual programs and signals via geostationary communications satellites, as well as ground satellite control infrastructure.
The national satellite operator carries out its activities in the field of audiovisual media in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Media”, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Telecommunications”, as well as international obligations.
The national satellite operator is not entitled to provide users with direct paid retransmission services. It provides DVB-S/S2 satellite broadcasting of programs of national television and radio broadcasters that are licensed by the Audiovisual Council, as well as of foreign television and radio broadcasters with the consent of the Audiovisual Council.
In accordance with paragraph 2.7 of the Decree No. 1589 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated 8 February 2022, the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos), currently operating under the public legal entity “Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding” (AZCON), is the national satellite operator in the field of audiovisual broadcasting.
