A meeting was held with Cristian Terheş, Member of the European Parliament, during the Azerbaijani delegation’s visit to Romania

 

A meeting with Cristian Terheş, Member of the European Parliament, was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania. The meeting was attended by Ismat Sattarov, Chairman of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, Vugar Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of AZERTAC, and Gudsi Osmanov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Romania.

The discussions focused on strengthening EU-Azerbaijan cooperation in the fields of information, communications, and media, alongside priorities of information security in the region. Cristian Terheş underlined the European Parliament’s strong commitment to the consolidation of peace and the promotion of dialogue in the South Caucasus region. He highly valued Azerbaijan’s modern information policy, as well as the support for media independence and digital transformation.

The discussion also touched on Azerbaijan’s leading role in the region following the establishment of peace. The Member of the European Parliament welcomed the initialing of the draft Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement in Washington on August, 08, with the participation of the President of the United States, describing it as a significant milestone. Both sides viewed the document as an important step in reinforcing EU-supported cooperation in the South Caucasus.

In their speeches, Ismat Sattarov, Vugar Aliyev, and Ahmad Ismayilov emphasized the importance of the international integration of Azerbaijan’s media and its active participation in the European information space. The MEP was also thanked for his fair and balanced stance on Azerbaijan in the EU Parliament. It was noted that cooperation between Azerbaijani media outlets and leading European agencies has increased in recent years, with the implementation of joint projects, journalist exchange programs, and training initiatives.

Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov noted that the strong political and economic ties between Azerbaijan and Romania are also opening up new opportunities for media cooperation. He invited Member of the European Parliament Cristian Terheş to support the delivery of objective information to the European public about the realities of Azerbaijan, especially concerning peacebuilding and reconstruction processes in the region.

The meeting also featured an exchange of views on topics such as combating disinformation, digital media literacy, young journalists’ access to European experience, and strengthening public communications on energy security.

In conclusion, both sides agreed to advance joint initiatives to deepen media-sector cooperation and broaden EU-Azerbaijan information ties.
